Poland - Warsaw

The Warsaw Uprising broke out on 1 August 1944 while the German army was bombing Warsaw and shooting thousands . The uprising was Poland's last bid for absolute freedom before the conquering Soviets then took their hold. This was the first monument to be erected in post-communist Poland when they had finally regained their independence.
